As a global international destination marketer, Elke Dens, of Visit Flanders, sometimes felt like a pianist in a brothel. That uncomfortable feeling encouraged her to develop a fairly unique angle on marketing through the lens of purpose, and she has been constantly adjusting the role of marketing amongst the wider context of society and values.
As an ambassador for meaningful marketing she was rewarded ‘Marketeer of the Year’ in 2019 by The Belgian Association of Marketing. And she is one of the driving forces behind ‘Travel to Tomorrow’, a vision on tourism that is based on regeneration.
Elke will be speaking on: Sustainable travel: transforming travel’s impact on communities

She is assigned as expert of the COVID-19 tourism recovery programme of the United Nations, she is a proud member of the board of The Travel Foundation and the Impact Travel Alliance, and marketing chair of The European Travel Commission aligning the marketing directors from 28 countries in Europe around one brand and strategy, focusing on added value and benefits to lesser-known places in Europe.
