Sustainable travel: transforming travel’s impact on communities

Sustainable travel may have become the hot button issue of the past year, but it’s far from a new trend. In fact, travel and tourism planners and marketers have been integrating sustainable principles into their strategies for some years.

Jeremy Sampson, of Propel: FORWARD’s adopted charity, The Travel Foundation will chair this discussion, looking at how pioneers in the travel industry are prioritising the local community in tourism management and development.

The Travel Foundation’s Jeremy Sampson will lead this discussion on sustainable travel

It will look at:

  1. Whether tourism has become a burden to local communities and the impact this could have on the future of travel.
  2. How sustainability has become much more than “eco-travel”.
  3. How the role of destination marketing organisations is changing to support this new focus.
  4. Content creators/the media’s role in helping to drive the necessary shift in traveller behaviour.
